I’ve started to plan out the plot for Phantom Blade. After taking a peak at the story that I wrote, I realized that I had to change the plot. The one I currently have is good but I think it needs an improvement. Plus, the characters need to be flushed out more.
It also didn’t help that my subplots weren’t working well. They were also lacking. Long story short, I didn’t plan this out really well to begin with. While I have to, sort of, start from scratch, I don’t feel overwhelmed. At least, not yet.
So, to begin with, I started typing up a beat sheet with facts that I need to keep in mind and the basic outline of the story. Technically, I should have done this way before and I did but it was never completed because of reasons that I don’t remember any more. Point is, I have to write it all down so there won’t be any confusion in the future. If there is, I can just look back at the document and set things straight.
As I continue to revise and rewrite Phantom Blade, I can keep adding to this beat sheet. If I have to change anything again in the other future revisions then it won’t cause too much of a problem. I’m optimistic.
On a side note, I’ve been wanting to build a multiverse with Phantom Blade being part of the world. Everything would fit – all my ideas for other urban fantasy novels – but I’m a bit terrified of that huge project. I mostly have all the world building for each idea but incorporating all of that together . . . I don’t even know where to begin.
The smart thing to do is to write the first series (I’m not sure if Phantom Blade will be a trilogy or have a sequel) and then write the second series and build more on the world.
I’ve made a diagram and it came to my attention that I can pull this off but I don’t have to necessarily link them together unless I really have to. It’s something to think about that’s for sure and I’m not ready to jump into the project just yet.
